The Catherine Bike

Concept

A bike build, based on the film Jules et Jim by François Truffaut. A conflict, a union, a love triangle. An interpretation of this balance between the three characters in the form of a bicycle. The Catherine bike combines a variety of conflicting parts from disparate cycling disciplines. From a track racing frame, Japanese Keirin, and Dutch commuter bike parts. It reconciles these completely opposing parts and opposing ideas into something new yet familiar. Together, the pieces form a beautiful and awkward union.

A Twist

In addition to the bicycle—a modern twist to the vintage bike lamps seen in the film. A bespoke bicycle component was designed and fabricated, a stem-mounted headlight. The light is wirelessly controlled by the rider’s biometric data—their heart rate. The light pulsates to the beat of the owner’s heart.
